The pick of Rep. Paul Ryan is going to make this a dog fight the rest of the way.  This pick is the best thing that happened to both sides.  It solidifies the Republican base and make them less likely to stay home.  It also makes the Democrats salivate and licking their chops over Medicare.  Buckle up, folks, it's going to get good!!!

No it didn't. For the campaigns to get a boost, Mitt needed a Palin level pick - uber-folksy enough for the GOP and uber-crazy enough for the Dems. Mitt went out his way to not do a Palin again.

Note ... the 2012 campaign is a joke.  This is the most pathetic election since Reagan-Mondale.

It's likely to get more intellectually stimulating for a certain type of wonk but I doubt it'll get much more interesting optically.

This is a slaughterhouse, and Mitt and Paul are the oblivious cattle.

Or, could Barack and Joe be on the wrong end of the sword?

You're right Bushie. They are on the wrong side of the fence. With this economy they should be the cattle, but the GOP Nominees are so weak, they have the sword instead.

Exactly, there's no way given these economic conditions that President Obama should even have a prayer.  Weak GOP nominees are a blessing to the President.  Still, the voters are the ones at the controls, not Romney, Ryan, Obama, or Biden.  It's going to be extremely close the rest of the way.  We likely won't have a clear idea of who is going to win until someone officially crosses 270 electoral votes, which I'm guessing won't happen until early Wednesday morning.

Hate to break it to you guys but this race is still not going to excite the country the way it was in 2008. Ryan is exciting compared to Romney, but that says more about Romney than anything else. A Rubio pick would have been a game changer, because hispanics would have given Romney a second look, not going to happen now. I think Romney will get less Hispanic votes than McCain, how does he win with those numbers?

I still think the tax issue is not going away, if Romney doesn't release more than 2 tax returns before the first debate it will be an early election night, even with the voter suppression machine operating in overdrive.

Ryan is certainly going to energize the 2012 race, regardless if he is viewed negatively or favorably. For now, the race to define Ryan has begun.

I don't get why some people keep insisting this election will definitely be close. It likely won't be, close elections are fairly rare, and it's more likely that one candidate or another wins by a solid 2008-esque margin.

So, voters care more about what he did in the past than what he's going to do for them in the future?

I think it will be more like 2004.

What Romney did in the past shows you what he's going to do for himself in the future: create a tax plan that overwhelmingly favors himself.

It's the Harding administration all over again.

Within a month we'll have a cluster of polls showing Obama with a double digit lead.

I'm disappointed that no one's made a Romney putting his dog on the top of his car joke yet. Sad

Agree, but more to the point, the amount of money both sides have suggest that this will be the most negative campaign yet.

Harding signed the first child welfare programme and advocated African-American equality. He also died in office.

And?

Conservatives have always been in favor of racial equality.

Progressives like Wilson were segregationists.

Except when they explicitly weren't, or when they claim to be in favor of equality but, in sadness, find they must oppose any legal means to make equality happen.

Coolidge + Harding were conservatives and in favor of racial equality. Wilson, was a progressive and in favor of segregation.

Unfortunately history disagrees with you.
