that Paul Ryan had he his way would destroy the United States?  financiers would eat retirement plans, Seniors health coverage converted to coupons, starving people left to starve?  this is the sh**t we're left with in this parking lot of a hellhole?

One wonders how the United States existed for over a century before the Great Society broke the federal budget.

Well, of course it's notable. America has collectively noted it and that's why Paul Ryan will not be inaugurated Vice President on 1/20/13.

Boom and bust before New Deal (as in 15%+ unemployment reguarly a decade). Half of seniors uncovered before Great Society. Evil liberals.

I find it hard to comprehend how many cannot admit and reconcile the fact that our superpower status - both economic and military-based - along with the biggest reduction in income inequality, largest amount of economic growth and the greatest standard of living ever achieved in this world was done during the time at which America was the closest that it has ever been to socialism.

1. That was my attempt at a Politico/Winfield impression.

2. Is it not reasonable to oppose the end of Medicare as we know it?

Grinding poverty and early deaths for 90% of the population. Of course you want to return to that because you're a sociopath, but that's the answer to "how the United States existed".

That's a nice theory, anyway. Of course people want to return to times of economic growth and not the last 3.5 years of floundering, which of course has placed record amounts of people in poverty.

I'm just giving you a hard time. Tongue

I think drastic change is necessary to set America right, and in all honesty, it'll probably take budget cuts AND tax hikes. Since that will never happen, I'd sure prefer the cuts over the tax hikes. Tongue

Not to mention the complete lack of opportunities that would lead to an escape hatch from that existence for a sizable minority.

I was talking about his general description of the United States before Great Society.

Yes, even in the 50s life played out this way for a large minority of Americans.

Doesn't it still do for many people?

How is it that with people like Tweed and Lief posting regularly Libertas remains, to my knowledge, the only person banned for excessive hyperbole?

Not as many, although it's ticking up again as one might expect.

Locking, because the thread is descending into dumb name calling, which I just tried to clean up.  There are plenty of other Ryan threads now, so if people still want to discuss the real issues here, migrate to one of those.
