After Obama's probable re-election, we will have had three consecutive two termers. First time since Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe.

It's also odd considering today's political climate- the casual observer would assume that that period was one of content and deference to authority, which is the complete opposite of today.

Which, if I'm not mistaken, was the climate in Jefferson-Madison-Monroe.

What's even funnier is that these three presidents have been pretty terrible.

We talk a big game but in the end it seems we're always too scared to switch captains in the middle of a ball game.

I also think that since the 90s we've been in a pretty stable realignment. It appears that during the best of times and the worst of times, both parties can count on a large bulk of states and electoral votes. We just don't see wild swings anymore. There are no more Reagans who can win Massachusetts and no more Carters who can win Mississippi.

His re-election is far from a given as there are troubling signs down the stretch with the youth and hispanic voters being far less enthusiastic this time around, but technically you are correct that the last three two-termers were Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe (1801-1825).  One could make a case that it also occurred with Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower from 1933-1961, however Truman was only elected once since he took over after Roosevelt's death just weeks after the 1945 Inauguaration.  He served 8 years, but was only elected once.  Still that was a 24+ year stretch with only 3 presidents.

I assume this is sarcasm.

See New England's treasonous negotiations with Britain for a separate peace during the War of 1812.
