Not a gaffe.

Of course, Obama's deceitful campaign will take 10 seconds of that and turn it into an ad, but once more of it airs, I think a lot of Americans would agree with the point Mitt was making - Choice in education shouldn't be based on how much money you have.

Deceitful? Cry me a river. The Obama campaign is responding to questionable things that Romney has actually said, which, lets be honest, is the gift that keeps of giving. They may use the quotes to fit a specific narrative but that's how campaigns work.

Which, considering the context, is being deceitful, as the ad will probably have nothing to do with education.

Well, let's also keep in mind that we totally just made up an Obama campaign ad.

All presidential campaigns take unfortunate comments and squeeze the life out of them.  Clinton and McCain had a field day with some of the things Obama said early in 2008, but now he's a pro at staying on script and on message (with just a few slip ups). Romney is still working on that.

Never in world history has a national leader been as dependent on a teleprompter.  In fact, it is the Obama years to which we owe the creation of the term "TOTUS".  His handlers cringe whenever he has to speak extemporaneously or even with TOTUS there is the threat that he could "go rogue" and start deviating from TOTUS' lines.  (Just one example:  TOTUS was delivering a speech through Obama on the "Jobs Bill" last year and had a line about Lincoln being the first GOP president, but Obama went rogue, winged it, and said Lincoln was the founder of the GOP.)

Hardly a gaffe, though I'm sure the Obama campaign will spin it as: "Look everyone Mitt Romney is filthy rich, don't vote for him!"

Let's remember that the first American president to make wide use of teleprompters was Ronald Reagan...

Reagan happened to be president when teleprompters were invented (or at least when they first came into common use).

But until Obama, presidents used teleprompters only for the most important speeches, like speeches before Congress or major foreign policy addresses which were televised to the nation, where every word was crucial.  With Obama, TOTUS is rolled out for even ordinary presidential announcements.  No one in the U.S. has failed to notice this.

When I first saw this picture, even I thought it was faked to mock Obama's dependence on TOTUS.  It wasn't.

Btw, did you know that TOTUS now has its own blog?  http://baracksteleprompter.blogspot.com/  (It looks like this one hasn't been updated in 9 months, but there are others.)

Here are some doozies showing Obama's dependence on TOTUS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=Jiow64UjuQQ&feature=endscreen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxxxGUeZtno&feature=related

And then the ultimate insult -- Newt Gingrich, widely regarded even by his critics as highly intelligent, offered to hold debates against Obama in which Obama would be allowed to rely on TOTUS for help.  (Gingrich vs. the entire Obama braintrust would have been an interesting debate.)

Oh, if you want to see how an intelligent candidate handles a major speech when the teleprompter fails ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om2gNE48gDI

Teleprompters are hilarious!

I mean, it's not as if Obama routinely speaks at conferences, interviews, and other events without a script.

Yes, and the people who hear him most often at conferences, interviews, and other events are the very same ones who insist he desperately needs TOTUS on so many occasions.  There are some very, very smart people among his handlers.  Otherwise he starts blabbering and makes Joe Biden look thoughtful, reflective, and measured.
