With Johnson aiming to get in on the debates, and with success on being on the ballot in every state, who will he hurt the most?

Electorally maybe Obama. If Johnson wins enough support in NM from Dems and Indies who liked him he could throw the state to Romney

Romney because his chances in Nevada, New Mexico, and Colorado, all states he should win if he wants less stress on Ohio and Virginia, are lost because of Johnson's huge popularity in his home state, and probably spread popularity throughout that area. Swing states where it leans Obama, like Wisconsin and Michigan, Gary Johnson has much less of a chance in.

Because John Anderson totally screwed over Ronald Reagan.

I know that's not a perfect analogy, but just because Gary Johnson is on the right does not mean he would screw over the Republican candidate. I voted for Obama in this poll, because looking at it now, Gary Johnson could potentially steal away a few crucial undecideds (in certain states) that might been persuaded to vote Obama instead.

He'll hurt the Libertarian Party the most, not they'll notice.  They haven't noticed for decades that the only time they were even remotely relevant was 1972 when a faithless Nixon elector voted for their ticket.

I don't think that will happen.

Romney does what he thinks is politically expedient. It's the general election now, and heading way to the right is no longer politically expedient.

He's writing editorials on the Huffington Post; I don't think that's going after Romney's supporters...

That doesn't mean it will translate into actual votes. When those readers read "Libertarian" in the party label, they'll freak out. People living in rural Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado on the other hand...

The goal isn't to have them read the gray 12pt italics that say "Gov. Johnson is a former Governor of New Mexico and the Libertarian candidate for President" at the end of the article, but the headline that says "I Will End The War In Afghanistan And Bring Our Troops Home Now"

I meant the Libertarian party label in the voting booth...

Johnson will hurt Romney by dividing the anti-incumbent vote. Not that he'll get more than 1% of the PV anyway. He has a chance of getting 5% in NM.

Even if that happens, Obama looks to be getting a majority of the vote in New Mexico anyway.  So it won't be hurting Romany, and indeed, a perceived certainty that Obama will win no matter what is what will make it possible for Johnson to have a chance of crossing that 5% threshold.
