Cobb County is a mess. It should be walled off from the rest of America.

Des Moines wouldn't be too bad, except for the fact that Iowa is a so-called "right to work" state.

true but you can thank the suburbs and western Iowa for that.

I live in a pretty liberal city, and I would say that Des Moines is a notch or two to the right of here socially and more than a couple notches to the left economically.

Dubuque has been said to be economically liberal/socially conservative, and very much so. It usually votes Democratic but has a lot of conservative impulses.

Correct. Dubuque is fairly simlar to Duluth, although probably a little more conservative. It's a very pro-life city, but pretty solidly Dem and leftist economically.

Overall Dubuque might be more liberal than Des Moines, tough to say, but socially there are only two cities in Iowa more liberal than it: Iowa City (most liberal city in Iowa economically and socially hands down) and Davenport. The problem is that Des Moines' suburbs are very conservative. Kerry probably would've won Iowa if it hadn't have been for all that sprawl.

btw, this site is VERY oudated so a lot of the info on it probably is as well. It has a whole page supporting "President Clinton"

The site is outdated, though a lot of the basic information about the cities should still be relevant.

-------

Regarding Dubuque, I heard it has one of the highest Catholic populations (percentage wise) in the entire country.

Looked it up. 80% Catholic. Still voted for McGovern.

Where are you finding city religious data? I can only find it by county.

That number is actually for Dubuque county although Dubuque city takes up over half the county and I doubt the county and city numbers are much different.
