There is an element of truth in this, with flaws.  Everyone to me feels oppression and their own sense of it as strongly as anyone else.  I need one of the smarts on the board to expound on it biochemically. I've seen valley girl stereotypes exhibit a similar profound sadness of wearing the same dress, as someone who just lost a close family member.  How do you you qualify the sense of loss, sadness and in this case victim-hood?

Clarence is a man of my uncle's generation, and like my uncle he probably perceives gradual loss of certain privileges that he grew up used to as, if not oppressive, unfair, simply because his conception of fairness was built up in a time when people of his socioeconomic standing had those privileges. It's an inevitable bias that anybody who loses any kind of privilege has, at least to an extent.

According to my estimates, your generation still had segregated water fountains, maybe even schools, so WSMCBs shouldn't be crying discrimination when affirmative action is put in place, for example. It's not even as bad as what minorities have been put through at their hands.

Fella your father needs to take a belt to you with this attitude you have..."according to my estimates"...do you think I created those policies? I was 11 when Brown v Board was decided- do I get credit for ending segregation?
I served with blacks and we got along just fine...and this was during the time of the Civl Rights Act and when Dr. King was killed- a tough time for blacks and whites to be in close quarters together

To insist that anybody in 2012 living in one of the wonderful Western nations is "oppressed" by the government or our culture is taking a sh**t on the legacy of their ancestors who actually were oppressed by the governments and culture of our wonderful Western nations in the past.  And, it should go without saying, they are also taking a sh**t on many people living in 2012 who don't have the luxury to live in one of our wonderful Western nations.  To suggest you can use the same word to explain...whatever horrible thing you think society is doing to you and what a child born in a N.Korean prison camp is going through is a sign you don't really understand what oppression really is.  Honestly, it's kind of sad/pathetic/gross.
