Polls in MD and DC seem to close at 2am, while WI seems to close at 3am.

CNN will likely start broadcasting at 2am.

I believe Maryland and DC polls close at 8pm Eastern, while Wisconsin polls close at 9pm Eastern / 8 pm Central.  Don't know about the TV schedule.

This will help Romney as the core population is urban or suburban unless of course a good segment of those 35% of voters are dems that decide to vote in the GOP primary for Santorum in an Operation Hilarity type move as PPP Polling seems to think will happen. I have my doubts about that, but we will know from the exit polling that comes out after 5PM.

The reason turnout is expected to be so high is there are important things on the ballot in WI not just the primary and voters are very politically energized by the fight over the recall election.

The officials are not projecting 35% of registered voters, but of the VAP (voting age-population), which is even more:

I think a good chunk of this high turnout comes from voters in the DEM primary too, even though Obama is unopposed. But we have seen in Ohio that voters come out for him no matter what, because of the union stuff in the previous year.

I wouldn't be surprised if 500.000 to 700.000 would vote in the DEM primary today.

Probably the only two things I'm somewhat interested in are:

1) Does Santorum come within 5% in Wisconsin?

2) Does Paul beat Gingrich in all three contests?

Given many more voted in the Dem primary, I don't see many Dems voting in the GOP primary from the early voters.

There are also local elections today across the state, such as school referendums, mayor races, etc.
Which will likely be one reason turnout is higher here.
Im going to head down and vote myself right now and maybe see how many people have turned out so far at my precinct to vote today.

I asked the lady's and they said about 120 people have voted as of 4pm, so probably 15 to 20% turnout at the moment.

Maryland's primaries are closed, there isn't any crossover voting.

Just voted. This was not nearly as fun as the 2006 & 2008 primaries. Tongue

I'm home from work.  Are we expecting immediate calls after the polls close in each state or could there be some counting that needs to be done first?

MD and DC will be called at 7 your time. They may wait 10/15 minutes after WI closes.

Agreed.  I think the congressional district situation will be difficult to call early.

[Obligatory]

We'll be in for this likely fairly boring primary at Mibbit. #atlasforum

Took a peek at the exits they're flashing for Maryland on CNN. Romney definitely won but the margin might not be as big as some of us were expecting.

And Santorum won Democrats again. lol.
