Hello New York/New York suburbs residents!  So I've lived in the putrid slice of suburban garbage know as South Jersey for the entire 25 years of my life,

Well... recently I was accepted to Rutgers Law in Camden.  After I graduate... I am relocating to the greatest city on the planet.  So... where is the best place to find an apartment in the Five Boroughs?

It's all about you. There's not one neighborhood that is best for everybody. I'm not a NYC resident but between family and several trips over the years, I have a decent background in NYC. First and formost, it totally depends how much you're willing to pay (sky's the limit on rent in Manhattan). I'd love a townhome in the village. It aint happening in this lifetime. Commutes are a major pain the Big Apple. Try to find a place with the quickest transportation options. The locals seem to be pushing Jersey hard. Are you 100% determined to live in the 5 boroughs? For that matter, are you 100% determined to live in the NYC metro? There are other towns out there that may surprise you in what they have to offer. There are pros and cons to living anywhere. And nobody can say what is best for you.

If you want to practice in the five boroughs area, why are you going to a mediocre Philly-area school?  This is a fairly important practical question.

That is a horrendous idea. Not only are the living costs absurdly overinflated, the people and culture would be smothering and maddening. You're probably better off not talking about New York altogether, your track record is only getting worse.

I know it's expensive, but he'll be a lawyer. And the people and culture would be awesome. Remember I live in a heavily hipster neighborhood.

Heavily hipster in Minnesota is like a 2 block area that has a co-op, in Brooklyn it'd be hundreds of thousands of them everywhere you go nearby. Not to mention the hipsters treat Brooklyn like Mecca, it's much more intense...not just records and PBR on a rooftop. Minneapolis has about 380,000 people total...Brooklyn alone has 2.5 million. Your little hipster neighborhood is not the same as Brooklyn. That's like vacationing at a resort in Jamaica and suggesting someone should move to Kingston.

Yeah not so sure I'd make that assumption with the job market for lawyers being what it is nowadays...
