http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/2012/03/santorum-the-antipink-bowling-ball-candidate-119027.html

From Ginger Gibson, on the trail at the latest bowling alley with Rick Santorum in Wisconsin:

Santorum stopped a college student in Onalaska, WI from using a pink bowling ball.

The student was part of a group of college Republicans who had gone to bowl with Santorum. When he went to use the neon pink bowling ball, Santorum and an aide stopped him. A nearby reporter led in, "Friends don't let friends...?"

"Friends don't let friends use pink balls," Santorum replied.

Once you get your hands around a pink ball, well it's a slippery slope. Good thing Rick stopped it

Can the GOP please come out of the closet already? They're not fooling anybody and I truly believe they would feel better. Ditto for the Catholic Church.

The most favorable explanation of Santorum's comment is that a generic pink ball provided by a bowling alley is most likely weighted and holed for a woman's hand.  You want a ball with holes positioned for your hand and with as much weight as you can comfortably handle.

Whether it is the actual explanation, who knows?

Bowling balls (and I say this as someone who bowls a lot) in public alleys tend not to be weighted or designed by gender, but for hand size. So Santorum was just being a douche.

You can say this about pretty much any comment he makes, but this man is....well....was a serious contender for President.

I was expecting an Onion article when I pressed that link. The fact that it wasn't... well... I don't even have words.

umm....if the balls aren't color coded for weight, this was obviously just a joke.  I know I would poke fun at a buddy choosing a pink ball.

And if there were several to choose from, I wouldn't choose the pink.  Why draw that kind of attention to yourself?  I perfer to look more masculine than bowling a whole game with a pink ball.

Have you guys never been bowling?

The pink ball is the lightest - any guy who picks up a pink ball is always open to jokes, not because the ball is pink, but because its only like 7 pounds.

If it is a tradeoff of mass for speed and accuracy, then the lighter bowling ball is a good trade-off.

An adult with an obsession with "sissy" qualities has a problem.
