By all means though, keep siding with a small group of reactionary bishops against the health of tens of millions of women. You're doing a heck of a job, Republicans.

Not sure why the GOP thought coming out against birth control would be a good wedge issue.

Well, of course. Obama is a 100% perfect voting block for single women. They are much more willing to give second chances. Many women believe men will change. "I know he was bad, but he's trying...ect". "He promises to change this time, ect".

Now remember: don't discuss or vote on social issues!

Santorum seems especially vulnerable on this issue:

"This isn't the first time that Santorum has made his intentions plain:

[Sex] is supposed to be within marriage. It's supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal… but also procreative. That's the perfect way that a sexual union should happen…. This is special and it needs to be seen as special.

He also maintained that contraception is "a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be."

Apparently, the Republicans aren't interested in winning the votes of people who have non-procreative sex. That should go well for them.

Things just get worse and worse for Republicans.  At this rate, the convention, right after nominating Romney or Santorum, will then engage in a mass suicide so they don't have to see the effects of their choice.

I'll repeat my prediction.  If the nominee's not Romney, and I hope it's not, it will be someone not currently in the race.  I know many will say that's crazy, but just watch what happens if Santorum wins Michigan.  All best will be off after that.

A brokered convention may be a disaster, but can it be much worse than a Romney/Santorum ticket?

Your theories about women in general are amusing... but this is about the GOP making themselves even more toxic to sexually active single women than they already are.

Guys, the male vote is gone, too, of course. Our obviously "Anti Men" stance against government coverage of Viagra has doomed us.

Looks like some of you didn't pick up on the point: talking about/voting on a social issue is bad...if you're a social conservative. In this and every other instance, it's fine.

For myself, I was talking about electoral consequences. If social conservatives want to talk about restricting access to contraception, then I enthusiastically support their right to have that conversation, not only because I believe in free speech, but because it's to my partisan advantage for them to do so.

It's sad that this happens. If I say anything more, it'd probably qualify as bigotted in at least one way & while I'd love to speak my mind, this isn't the type of place for that sort of thing.

This is really only a social issue for a narrow segment of the population. For millions of women it's an economic, pocketbook issue.

Obviously one of the major economic concerns of our time.
