My son-in-law has set up my cell phone with "These Boots Are Made For Walking" as the ringer!!! Do any of you have songs as your ringer? I never knew how to do this... I may start using my cell phone more

My wife's has some funky 70s porn movie sound.  I think it's actually the default ring on hers.

Mine actually sounds like a phone ringing when it rings.  I was delighted to find that it has such a setting, and set it thusly when I bought it, and have left it on that setting ever since.

Well, I'm sure I have some musical things for my ring tone options, but I don't have any that I se. I just use a regular ringer

For a short time, mine was "You Only Live Once" by Suicide Silence. Now I just have it as the default ringing sound.

Such a kill-joy... so nothing has changed.

I didn't bother with a musical tone until I decided to piss off a friend who didn't like a song I loved, about 6 years ago now, I do have a song as a ringtone, but it's more about the sounds of the song than the song itself... if that makes any sense.

I think a bumper sticker is more of a commitment.  After all, if you change your mind you have to peel it off, and sometimes paint comes off with it.  I consider the little Jesus fishes (and the Darwin proto-amphibians that they inspired) the same level as bumper stickers.  Ring tones are more like jingle balls and fuzzy dice and objects dangling from the rear-view mirror.  Easily (and often) changed.

But I don't go in for any of them either.  My bumper's clean, my phone sounds like a phone, and my rear view mirror is free of objects d'art.  However, I do keep an Elvis Presley poster on my office door, and a picture of Chairman Mao on my office wall, right between my Che Guevara wallclock and an autographed picture of Ron Paul.  But wall art strikes me differently than ring tones, bumper stickers, Jesus fish, and fuzzy dice.  It's more stately, somehow.

To me, a ringtone is an attempt to make a statement, such as, “Hey, everyone, here is the music I like”…when most people don’t care to know.  Kinda like bumper stickers – I really don’t care to know what political views the driver of the car in front of me has.

But, it’s a trivial issue.

Understood.  Like tattooes, bumper stickers and ringtones for the flashy but insecure types.  And for folks who wear their personalities and/or their politics.  In that way they're all very similar.

I tend to discriminate based not on some Kantian ideal, but rather on the practical merits.  In descending order of commitment:  Tattooes require lasers for their removal, bumper stickers require a razor blade and a steady hand, and ringtones require that you push a few buttons.

On some level I respect the man more who has RonPaul2012 tattooed on his forehead than the man who has a RonPaul2012 bumper sticker on his Ford Fiesta.  And way more than the man who has The Youngbloods Get Together as the ringtone on his mobile phone.

I don't mind alumni stickers though, they're ususally small and well placed...and they're a statement of pride, rather than trying to off-load a political view on me...but I don't have one myself.
