It's nice to see Santorum, the reasonable alternative to Romney, get some well-deserved attention for the first time since Iowa. I'll never understand why Gingrich got more attention than him. Hopefully Gingrich will get creamed in Arizona/Michigan, and decide to drop out.

Rick Santorum is now the frontrunner. Don't let us down, you crazy son of a bitch.

Santorum at 14.2% for the nomination on intrade now. I don't remember what he hit after Iowa but I don't think it was anywhere near that.

Well, given there's basically no chance of anyone in this field actually beating Obama, I'm personally just glad the general might end up just that much more amusing.

Also, Phil? I don't think I'm wise to the joke yet. Huh

Keystone Phil is a longtime poster here who was apparently saying for years that Santorum had what it took to be a Presidential contender despite losing in 2006 by 18 points. Now that Phil's been proven more or less correct, 'congratulations Phil' is something we say a lot around here.

Well, then. In that case, uh, congratulations Phil!

I feel like I just made a rite of forum passage, somehow.

I frankly still have a hard time believing that Santorum is among the final four, let alone stands a serious chance at being the nominee.

The more I see him at debates and speeches and such, the more I like him, even if I disagree with his politics, a lot. He seems like a genuinely nice guy. That's probably part of his success.

Are we going to do this every single time Santorum wins something? There are other Santorum supporters on this forum you know.

If anyone had told me in February of 2007 that exactly five years later, Rick Santorum would win four of the first eight Republican Presidential nominating contests, I would have thought they were an insane hack. Hell, if someone just six months ago had even just told me that Rick Santorum would perform better than Perry, Gingrich, Bachmann, and Cain combined, they still would have sounded crazy.

This election has simply been unfathomable. Incredibly crazy.

"So, who gets the other 4 states?"

"Newt Gingrich wins one by a decent amount...."

"Please make this insane hypothetical not be 100% off the deep end."

However, it should be noted that Congratulations Phil was actually the title of a memorable post by resident Romney fanboy Winfield. The congratulations was not for anything Santorum did, but rather for the election to the Senate of Pat Toomey, another of Phil's favorites.

Ah, I see. That was during my casual lurking phase, before my time by a few months if you will.

I will say that the road ahead for Santorum doesn't look incredibly promising.

Super Tuesday, in particular, looks pretty bleak for him... unless he can push Gingrich out of the way somehow (either by having him drop out or making him completely irrelevant). He's not even going to be able to get delegates from some of the CDs in Ohio, which really blows.

So in honor of this I'm going to give a free month of internet to the guy across the hall who normally pays me half of my internet bill. I'm showing the same love to the world that Jesus Christ showed to us all.

I feel like Santorum could do pretty well in Ohio, especially after his momentum now and how irrelevant Gingrich has become. His implosion helps Santorum.
