I think a key point being lost in all of this is that it was Joe Republic, a figurehead of the Moderation team, that was insulted.  if it were me, or BRTD, or opebo, or someone else disliked and disrespected by the Mod team, I highly doubt that such swift action and passionate defense of the swift action would have been undertaken.

Maybe you had to be there in the IRC to understand how disturbing it was, but I can't see how. He threatened to assault another member.

To use one of your examples, BRTD did actually make some fairly disgusting comments about me and TJ's grandparents in the chat one night. Nothing came of it because, I assume, neither of us, or, indeed, anyone, takes BRTD seriously.

Teddy went beyond just insulting someone.....

That being said I think Joe was let off way too easy after the BBC incident. What kind of action was taken against him, if any? I don't really give a flying fukc that the image was hosted on his account, what he did was wrong.
