If Gingrich can fight like this in SC, he can come back in 10 days of Florida.

Newt's lead with evangelicals hasn't eroded today at all.

And, very good news:

Do the anti-Romney forces a favor and drop out Santorum.

Even Perry bested you in this regard.

Newt should be up then, shouldn't he?

538 has breakdowns by night. Tonight's numbers, with change from last night in parentheses:

Gingrich 36% (+2)
Romney 30% (+2)
Santorum 16% (+2)
Paul 15% (±0)

So it looks like Perry's support split evenly.

Conventional wisdom and reality are not always the same.

He's still the most popular second choice and he's probably closer to Perry, ideologically, than Paul or Romney.  I wasn't Gingrich to get all of Perry's vote, but I'd be expecting him to get more of it.

Right, and I think PPP's "second preference" polling is more likely to be reflective of reality than your intuition, so I don't consider this result at all surprising.

My intuition seems to be showing up in the polling.  Maybe the poll didn't catch it, or maybe Gingrich has lost overall momentum.

"About" might be the key.  Is Newt surging, holding, or falling back?  If the momentum continues, he will win.  If he's falling, how fast?
