There's music and film outside of what the mega-corporations put out.  If the music and film industries were to die, we would not have no music or film.  We would simply enter a new era of media.

I never said we'd have no music.  But anybody producing music and film in some sort of economic system makes up an "industry".  You don't need mega-corporations.  If you go to a local show and pay $5 to get in, that's still part of an industry.

When I say "music industry" I mean the mega-corps and such.

SOPA could still be revived, and there's the equally bad PIPA to worry about. This is by no means over.

I was never too concerned about it. Every session some draconian anti-piracy bill gets introduced that the internets freak out about, and they never get a real vote, much less passage.

The DMCA passed Congress unanimously. Now it was nowhere as bad as SOPA/PIPA, but it was still a horrid bill. So I really wouldn't count on Congress to do the right thing.

I'm glad SOPA seems to be dead but I still e-mailed Schumer, Gillibrand and (Congressman) Gibson about it, as well as PIPA, tonight. I was actually convinced to by the girl I'm seeing, which I thought was interesting because she's not particularly political most of the time.

Well yeah, that's correlation, not causation.

But if you think the existence of megacorporations in the field has a net positive effect on the amount of music and, especially, film produced (as in, different ones, not number of copies)... I'd like some of whatever you've been smoking.

One down, one to go...if PIPA passes, I will refrain from using this forum, as well as Facebook, for a full year.

PIPA co-sponsors Marco Rubio, Roy Blunt, Ben Cardin, and even that staunchly anti-internet idiot Orrin Hatch have pulled their support.

Put it this way, if even Orrin Hatch is backing away from PIPA, then it's probably a bad bill.

What's funny is when people who use the internet as more than a business model support these bills.  How tarded can you get?

Actually, it's 36 down: Support for PIPA collapses in blackout aftermath.

Or rather an old one. I'd have to learn how to play the piano.

I'd have to start pirating sheet music.

I like the graph here, so I'm posting this.

Neat graph, but inaccurate. Opencongress.org is showing the whip count to be nearly 50 for the anti-PIPA forces.

Don't know if you've heard, but Lamarr Smith has suspended House Judiciary hearings on SOPA until wider agreement can be reached and Harry Reid has pulled PIPA from a Senate vote.

So, do you think that they might revive this idea by sneeking it all into bills relating to child porn?
