What will be the next piece of flawed legislation that people will freak out about?

Good news, but don't get too excited. PIPA isn't dead yet.

I was never too concerned about it. Every session some draconian anti-piracy bill gets introduced that the internets freak out about, and they never get a real vote, much less passage.

Ahh yes - those terrible music and film industries.  If they didn't exist, the world would be so much better!  Wouldn't a world without music and film be great!?!?!

Yeah, because piracy is so killing those billion dollar industries.

Yeah, because piracy is so killing those billion dollar industries.

But without the industries, we'd have hardly any music or movies.  It's one thing to oppose SOPA for overreaching the bounds it should, but piracy is still a bad thing.  What does being a billion dollar industry have anything to do with it?  If you're stealing from a rich person or stealing from a poor person, it's still stealing.

Well I'm a communist.  Stealing from the rich is what I'm all about.

Even in a communist paradigm, you need a music and film industry to get music and film...

I suppose you think DVRs are evil and enjoy watching commercials, too? lol

There's music and film outside of what the mega-corporations put out.  If the music and film industries were to die, we would not have no music or film.  We would simply enter a new era of media.

Let's say you have a friend who is a big movie buff. Let's call him David. David has literally thousands of movies on DVD (all purchased legally). David also happens to live in a very big house. In fact, it's essentially a mansion. Every weekend in David's house is a 'MovieFest'. He invites hundreds of people from the neighborhood to his house to watch the various movies that he owns. Are these people stealing from the film industry?

Or rather an old one. I'd have to learn how to play the piano.

No one is arguing they should just go and die, so I fail to see where you get that from. It is not unreasonable for people who were pissed with SOPA to also be upset with those responsible for it.

I don't have a DVR, but I don't object to watching commercials.  When I watch my shows online, I do so on the network's sites and watch the commercials rather than using sites like Megavideo.

I never said we'd have no music.  But anybody producing music and film in some sort of economic system makes up an "industry".  You don't need mega-corporations.  If you go to a local show and pay $5 to get in, that's still part of an industry.
