I posted in the Music thread about a song that reminded me of when I returned home for my wife... after her death a couple years ago, friends family and a doctor recommended I take up poetry to express myself. I thought- I am not artistic or poetic, but it worked. I wrote about my time in the service and my time with my wife... her is the poem that I wrote first and the one I recite the most

Once in every long while I travel through time
My white hair turns dark and my wrinkles disappear
I am strong and lean and mean again
I am a sailor and I have no fear

Sitting on a plane with my fellow sailors I rejoice
For the final time I am returning to those I love
I return alive and well with all my limbs
Thanks to the Good Lord above

My mind’s eye no longer sees Vee Cee
I have vision only of the dearly missed ruby red lips
The sparkling blue eyes and blonde curls
And even those sexy swinging hips

I long to kiss her as I have longed for a year before
But as we approach the California coast I begin to ask
What if another year apart has changed us
What if being my wife proves too difficult a task

Lord knows I changed in Vietnam
Lord knows she changed while I was away to fight
What will become of our love now
What if darkness eclipses our light

We land and the moment of truth arrives
I step off into the cool California breeze and look out
For a few desperate moments I cannot find her
And in the chaos of the moment I hear a shout

I turn to see the ruby red lips I have missed so much
Her hair is as blonde and beautiful as ever
But it is the sparkle in her eyes that I fell in love with
And I know at that moment that our love will last forever

She runs to me and I run to her
So long we have been apart
We embrace and kiss and hold each other
Never again to depart

I see and feel that beauty in my mind’s eye all the time
I am more old, more weak, more fat, and more poor
But my life remains so full because I think only of the day
When I join her in Heaven and we are together once more

Do any of you write poetry to express yourself?

I'm an avid poetry/songwriter, but I'll refrain from posting my material, as it's far too dark for me to feel comfortable putting on here.
