27%  Mitt Romney
23%  Newt Gingrich
18%  Rick Santorum
8%    Ron Paul
7%    Rick Perry
5%    Stephen Colbert
4%    Jon Huntsman
1%    Buddy Roemer

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/ColbertTabs.pdf

Does Colbert's showing, and PPP's analysis, show a path for a decent Huntsman showing? Oddly enough, Roemer's supporters, who overlap the most with Colbert supporters, have the highest percentages of respondents saying "corporations are people".

If Gingrich withdraws and endorses Santorum, or visa versa, said candidate will win SC and FL...

I don't think Gingrich will drop out even with a poor showing in New Hampshire, as polls suggest he could still win South Carolina.

I think as long as Santorum/Gingrich comes in 4th and 5th, it's going to all be good for Romney. If Gingrich takes 4th, his support in SC may raise a little, but attacks would quickly bring him back down. Santorum taking 4th may cause him a bounce, but he won't be able to win South Carolina unless Gingrich withdraws, which he won't.

South Carolina is going to be a brutal primary. New Hampshire times 10.

The problems of collective action rear its ugly head. They also tweeted this -

ppppolls PublicPolicyPolling
Why someone(s) need to drop out if Mitt's going to be defeated- in NC Santorum leads him by 18 1 on 1, but by only 2 full field

This is exactly the same poll they released on Saturday, just with Colbert included.

This is why Newt, not Rick, needs to go. The traitors should note this.

Yeah, this thread should be merged with the other thread on the same poll.

I'm not a mod on this sub-board, so Tender will have to be the one to merge them.

Why poll for Colbert or Roemer?  They aren't on the ballot.  If they want to include joke candidates in their polling, Bachmann, Cain, and Johnson are all on the ballot.  Indeed, I will not be surprised if Bachmann beats Huntsman in the actual result.

Because he generated a sh**t-ton of click-throughs with the de facto "yeah Huntsman should drop out" story.
