I made a campaign promise that I would demand solid reasons to sign any non-emergency bill over $1 billion.

I'm going to talk to my new SoIA about the availability of section 8 qualified housing.  I think the reason many people end up waiting is because they don't have housing close to their jobs.  Then the wait for voucher support just compounds this.

I'd like to see comprehensive legislation that both decreases waiting for voucher support while also making section 8 qualified housing more available.

I'll wait another day or so if the sponsor wishes to provide an answer to the above posts. Otherwise I'll just bring it to a final vote... Tongue

On the issue of quotas, not so much, aside from tangentially related legislation like the public housing bill. Waiting lists for people who qualify are constantly full, with wait times lasting years, potentially, and states resorting to one-off lotteries just to actually shake up the process. Our welfare system in this regard is trapped in a 90s-boom-time philosophy when it wasn't actually required to let more people in, when now, it most definitely is.

Aye.

The holidays have not been kind for the Senate's ability to debate, myself included. Tongue

It's okay... I've been semi-slow on a lot of PPT stuff lately. But when half the Senate is gone it's easy to quit checking in frequently!

Aww.. Sad

Current tally is 6-2. This has enough votes to pass. Senators have 24 hours to change their votes.

With 6 ayes and 2 nays, this bill has passed and is now presented to the President for his signature or veto.

I think such legislation will help the poor get quicker access to housing, though I still have concerns about the quantity of subsidized housing available.  In any case, this is a good step in the right direction.
