March 17th is when all the delegates are being awarded, not the primary in early February.

Just heard this from a campaign. Can anyone verify. If so, does that mean Newt can still/is on the caucus ballot, just not the primary one?

Yes, that's true. The primary is meaningless, which is why Newt didn't file for it.

I've also never heard of a "caucus ballot". In every caucus system I'm aware of you show up and declare who you're for and write it on a little slip of paper.

At the Texas caucus they made us stand in a Clinton line and an Obama line (and I'm pretty sure there were other shorter lines for the other candidates) and then once you got to the front you signed your name on a clipboard and then went home.

Conclusion of the story: Texas is great.
