Is it that women as a group are slightly more liberal than men? Or something else?

An argument I've heard over the difference in approach to politics between the genders, is that men are more interested in facts and numbers - politics being a bit like sports statistics - and that women seek an emotive, trust-based connection to candidates. Of course the criticism of Romney tends to be that he's not likable or trustworthy - but do women see him differently?

Or is he simply better looking than Cain, Paul or Gingrich - which might also explain why Bachmann ironically does better with men than with women?

He's better looking and his personal background is squeaky clean. Handsome, strong and faithful: He's the ideal man from the biological/psychological perspective of many females.

Anybody who tells you that looks do not matter is not familiar with the fact that those who watched the 1960 debates on TV largely agreed that Kennedy won the debates, but those who listened to the debates on the radio largely agreed that Nixon won the debates.

For better or worse, looks matter.

The more stridently ideological GOP candidates (by which I include both the more conventional conservatives and the Ron Pauls) always do better with men than women.  This has been true since pretty much forever.

Bachmann may be something of an exception to that.  Early on, she was getting more support from men, but now it's more even, with some polls showing her doing better with men and some with women.

Does the ideological Democratic candidates do the opposite with women? White women are more likely to cast their vote for a Democratic candidate over a Republican where the opposite is for guys. I think men have more connection with the GOP macho image over the girly men Democrats that want to take their guns away and that GOP=hard working and Dem=lazzy ass. This is even more true with white males that tend to shy away from those welfare loving minorities and feminist that want to abort the middle class, christian, straight, white male race.
