The famous character actor, Harry Morgan, died today at 96. His television roles included Officer Bill Gannon on
Dragnet and, most famously, Col. Sherman T. Potter, the commanding officer of the 4077 on
M*A*S*H.
His film career spanned more than 55 years and included such classic westerns as
The Oxbow Incident (1943),
How the West Was Won, (1962), and
The Shootist (1976).
He also appeared in the comedies
Support Your Local Sheriff (1971) and the
Apple Dumpling Gang (1975). A truly outstanding actor. RIP
