What? I'm a big opponent of Putin and would like to see a more pro-EU, pro-US Russia with a liberalized economy.

It was clear to me by 2002 that he was a thug, with his war crimes in Chechnya.

In Chechnya, maybe, but remember that between 2001 and 2005 or so, Chechnya was the bad guys, and, prior to 9-11, they were not only good, but great freedom-loving people. At least according to the media. After 9-11 they became al-queada affiliated, and by 2005 or so, the media forgot about all that

So? Putin still committed massive war crimes in Chechnya and destroyed 90% of that place. Regardless of whether or not the Chechen rebels/terrorists were good or bad guys, Putin committed massive human rights violations in Chechnya and elsewhere. And I say this as someone with little sympathies for the Chechen rebels.

Yea, but this thread is about how I'd vote Tongue, or at least my post is, and this is why I'd back him in '04 and encourage others to do the same (at the time anyway)
