Maybe. But many conservatives like Gingrich. I always thought that Newt could serve as a compromise candidate if tensions between the establishment and the TEA Party ever went to the extreme.

Gingrich is eating more into the Romney support than Cain, as he is not the anti-Romney but an establishment Romney replacement.

That means he's the most formable candidate in the field. His approvals with the tea party are through the roof and he still does well with moderates in the primary. Eating more at Romney plus being a top choice of conservatives means he can unite the party.

The Romney collapse is now apparent. Hopefully he will be joining Mr. Perry in the doldrums shortly. They can debate each other from the opposite ends of the stage!
