Debate matters less than spin. What they said would happen would happen. Except for Perry, because that was bad.

Mittens ruled totally, and he will get a discernible bump. Perry will disappear. Cain's erosion will continue. Newt may get a tad more from the erosion of the others.

I can't imagine any change.  Huntsman, Bachmann, Santorum and Paul all look to stay the same.  Perry really did have a bad debate lol!  I guess he may lose some support.  Romney was good but I can't say he will go up in the polls because he just doesn't appear to go up in the polls.  Gingrich appeared to be a little better.  As for Cain, he did well and I suspect he will remain at top tier status for awhile longer

If giving uninspiring, conventional answers means victory, then Romney won soundly.

Cain rocked. He is the Anti-Romney.

Newt's schtick of battling the moderators took a turn for the worst tonight.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Perry camp starts having some serious conversations about when and how he can get out of this thing tonight.

Held his ground. Stays stable.
The winner, if not in performance, but he would have won anyway.
The scandal will hurt him- but not so badly as some would think.
Seemed more moderate, came to Perry's defence (or at least didn't pounce).
Ouch.
He was the predetermined winner, anyways. He'll go up.
Forgettable.
Preformed well, but still forgettable.

1. Romney- No one was at the same level of policy knowledge and charisma as him.
2. Santorum- He was like a changed man tonight, and wasn't whining, or attacking the other candidates. Too bad the moderators forgot about him at the end. He was very substantive tonight.
3. Huntsman- Yes it was that much of a disaster, that Huntsman managed to place third. If only he could work on his awkwardness and mousiness, he might gain some traction.
4. Gingrich- Showed he was knowledgable and experienced for the job, but came off as an arrogant assh*le and too much of a bully to the moderators.
5. Paul- Paul was just Paul as usual. He's got the eccentric and charisma factor going for him, but is going to have trouble expanding his support beyond his base.
6. Cain- Yeah a big fail on his part. Answering 999 to every question even when it doesn't relate to the subject isn't a sign of preparedness for the job. I highly doubt we've seen the last of his accusers too.
7. Perry- EPIC FAIL.

And Bachmann is so irrelevant now she's off the rankings.

Cain-20
Newt-15
Paul-12

The others are irrelevant, and lol at Rick Perry.

Herman Cain won this debate. He destroyed the false character assassinations, winning the crowd to his side in the process, and expertly explained his bold 9-9-9 plan, coining the term "sneak-a-tax" in the process. He is once again the frontrunner.

Only Perry's brain freeze will be covered by media.  The rest of debate will have zero impact on polls.  The news will switch back to Cain if (when) more details of the allegations come out.

What idiot voted Perry gaining from tonight? This moment could go down in history as the defining moment of destroying a campaign like Stockdale or Dean's mad man in Iowa

Perry was doing fine until that...one...question.

Still, I must repeat that he has $15 million waiting to be spent. I wouldn't count him out just yet. Finally, Perry's remaining supporters don't really care about how dumb he is. They know.

That money could be better spend on charities for the poor.

Romney-A- Romney was strong tonight, and clearly is the best to put up against Obama.
Cain-B- He was decent, and he fended off criticism on the scandal.
Santorum-C- Was not an asshole for once. He seemed ok on the issues, and he may experiance a poll bumb.
Paul-C- Not his best performance, it just was dull.
Gingrich-C- Blamed the media way too much, could of been better.
Huntsman-C- He stayed the same, he wont be going any where any time soon.
Bachmann-D- China has nuclear weapons already....
Perry-F- I think he fell asleep.

I wish that Huntsman would stop throwing out lines like this: "We need to create an environment that speaks to job creation."

If he were capable of speaking forcefully and directly, he would do much better in these debates.

Otherwise, a good night for Romney and Gingrich. Perry's gaffe will get a lot of coverage, but I don't think that it will matter very much in the long run - whereas the fact that he was otherwise fairly coherent might.

Didn't think that Cain's performance was commensurate with his status in polls. When is Cain's routine going to wear thin on Republican voters?

Also, it has to be said: Horrible, horrible moderators. I was actually glad when Gingrich got surly with them.

The problem with Huntsman is that he really never gets to the beef or the nub of an issue. And way too much feel good generalities. He failed to explain or sell with any authority his tax plan that the WSJ so loved. Maybe he should have had the WSJ stand in for him.

Bachmann advocated raising taxes, both the payroll tax, and raising taxes on the poor, even if it's just $10, for fairness' sake.

Later on CNBC she said about taxes, ''If a person can pay more, they should pay more.''
