I'm not naturally a supporter of conservatives, although I'm also not automatically going to vote against the right wing. For me, the parties of the anglospheric right all seem to be somewhat ideologically united for now, certainly compared to their past. Obviously they are all still big tents, as has always been the case with the anti-Labor movements in the Commonwealth realms and with the Business-religion alliance in the United States.

My personal order of preference:

NZ Nationals
AUS Liberals
UK Conservatives
CAN Conservatives
US Republicans.

Big gap after the Brits, huge gap after the Canucks.

(I should also note that if this were about the party leaders, the Liberals would move to last presuming Boner was Republican leader)

The Nationals are currently the least obnoxious. This wasn't always the case.

John Key's Nationals are reasonable and palatable for non-conservatives. Cameron's Tories are pretty bad, but they're not particularly horrible. Some Australian Liberals are reasonable, but in their current leadership they're raving mad. No comment on the other two reactionary Forces of Darkness.

The Republicans, followed by the party I'm a member of (Canuckian Tories), Aussie Liberals, NZ Nationals and finally the UK Tories. Huge gap in between Oz and the final two.

Let's see. Republicans are one of the worst parties mankind has ever produced, Austrian liberals are led by a crazy nutjob, Hash told me too much about Canadian tories for me to vote for them, the British tories gave us 11 years of Thatcher... I guess I'll go with NZ nationals. Since I don't know them, I can reasonably assume they suck less than their counterparts.

Right now, maybe. But in the past they gave the world Robert Muldoon (dangerously incompetent and also rather authoritarian), to say nothing of the extremely right-wing National governments in the 1990s.

Well, looking at the parties leaders, John Key seems pretty mediocre and useless, but is still clearly better than the right-wing extremists in Australia, Canada and the United States and David "throwing the poor on to the street with a smile" Cameron.

Today's Nationals. John Key is a very competent and decent PM, and his caucus for the most part is uncontroversial and hardworking. The rest are all pretty bad in their own unique way.

That film must have been so confusing to New Zealanders. It's enough to make you break into a secret nuclear reprocessing plant.

Nationals? I'm really only picking those through ignorance of their (presumably) horrible platforms; it seems not that long ago I'd believe the Canadian Tories and the Aussie coalition to be preferable to our Thatcherite tossers, but nowadays they cause me a similar level of revulsion. With Republicans last. Always last. Which is quite an achievement, given my burning hatred of the Tories.

So yeah, in the order of me mentioning them.

The Canadian Conservatives are probably closest to me ideologically.

The Republican Party, and the Australian Liberals I can usually agree with, mainly on economics. The NZ Nationals are very 'meh, so what', and the UK Conservatives are not even conservative.

I almost feel sorry for the lack of Australian Liberal love on this poll, even if their leader is an apparent nutter. Tongue

Edit: Someone voted Australian Liberal since I wrote this. Kudos to them.
