Just as Dick Cheney he criticized John Kerry for voting against defense spending he himself didn't support as Defense Secretary, Cheney is now accusing Obama of playing politics by keeping a commitment made by George Bush: that all troops would leave Iraq by 2011.

The politics of the last election being that Obama promised to remove all troops, and was elected.

Rush for exit that the Iraqis have requested, and that Bush assented to.

Cheney is a shameless war profiteer.

As well as a chickenhawkish, bald-headed old piss ant. Vietnam was too scary so he got deferments. Why is it this guy is so eager for this war to continue?

Obama should have ended this monstrosity long ago.

Cheney should probably be in prison.

I wonder if President Bush would still be bringing the troops home on his proposed timeline.  Oh, how I wish to hear what the 43rd President has to say about No. 44's decision.

I agree on the first sentence.

I disagree on the second sentence.

He has no shame.

What redeeming qualities does a war profiteer have? That's about as low as you can go. I understand we're a little desensitized to it, but come on. It's a clear as day and horrendously insulting.

I think he would have, and he would have likely put up another banner (metaphorically speaking).

I think Cheney deserves respects for being unapologetically evil.

The war has been over for a while now and the staged withdrawal has been ongoing for a long time.  To claim that there is a rush for the exits is absurd.  The Republicans who are taking potshots are just being disingenuous.  We are not wanted there and should not want to be there.  Even on a strategic level it makes no sense.  A few thousand advisers, with no immunity for  prosecution, are no real deterrence to Iran.

Also amusing how Republicans are upset that U.S. soldiers won't get legal immunity in Iraq.

They just can't understand why the Iraqis aren't THANKFUL for what the U.S. has done there, or why they would want to prosecute U.S. soldiers for anything.

I've got to sya this is a good post. One can only wonder why Iraq does not want to give immunity to those who have battered their homelands. However, I hope that it is not American troops who are tried for crimes in that country alone. The real crooks are those war profiteers who have gone over and made hefty sums from the spoils of war. Lets hope some Halliburton and Xe people find themselves sitting before a trial of Iraqui jurors.

Not to defend Cheney, but he certainly didn't have as much pull in W's administration in the second term as he did in the first, I doubt he had much hand in setting the Bush deadline for withdrawal. How would Dick have handled Iraq not  giving American soldiers immunity though?

Dick is still mad that jr didn't bomb Tehran like he wanted to. He should be happy though, Obama is going to make sure there's plenty of contractors left behind to loot and pillage protect Iraq after this year on top of the 150 left behind at Camp Anaconda.
