I think forgive the debt... which is a significant portion of the bleed - but in exchange for a re-structure. Consolidation of post offices for example, you don't need one in every town, allow newsagents to be 'agents' and can carry out most of the post office's services... there's A LOT that can be done besides getting rid of it.

The postal service for MANY remains the only way to communicate with people long-distance. Older people, the disabled, people on low incomes cannot afford a computer, let alone internet connection.

Private services are considerably more expensive.

A low-cost public service is important - we need to make smart decisions and choices - this isn't smart.

I think we need to simply reintroduce a bill that actually fixes this problem. Marokai, shall we cosponsor legislation?

We shall! Co-sponsored legislation is something that should happen more often around here IMO. We can work something out in the next days for the new term once I'm not so sick. Sad

The only way to fix the problem is abolition and I didn't expect that to pass.

You take a shockingly simplistic approach to legislating..

Many private shipping stores offer USPS services. We do not need specific post offices in each small town in this country. On top of cutting Saturday deliveries, closing many of the lesser used post offices and cutting back on administrative costs will go a long way in fixing this problem. I hope Marokai and I will have a bill to introduce soon that will stop the financial hemorrhaging without getting rid of the post office completely. We need it to survive to offer a lost cost, public alternative to the more expensive private companies.

You still have some time Tongue

The President and Vice President shall take office at 1200 Eastern Standard Time on the first Friday in the month after their election.

Either way, never fear! If it passes... somehow, I'll be vetoing it.

This has enough votes to fail. Senators have 24 hours to change their votes.
