... it's actually getting people's attention. I spoke to three different, non-engaged, people, and they all had a basic idea of what the 9-9-9 plan was (some black Republican's tax plan).

Now all Cain needs is a catchy song. This perhaps?  Replace 151 with 999?

Why, just today I was in a locker room and three people were talking about 999. Then, I was asked what the details were, and the the by-standing custodian came over and started praising Herman Cain.

Herman Cain and the 999 Plan might be the best thing to happen to American politics in years.

According to Cain's website, 999 is apparently only a transitional tax code until we can move to the FairTax.

Well several things that are flawed get a lot of attention.  Look at Mitt Romney as an example

999 is even funnier in a British context, of course.

Cause of 7-7-7?

Dry humour indeed...

That stuck out to me. Why make such a big deal about a transitional tax code?

Because 5-5-5 worked so well for Dominos or whoever.

Seriously, he's just a pizza-guy, and most Americans can't think harder than 30-second ad campaigns.

I guess it's cool that we're actually discussing specific policies in the mainstream discourse for once. It's too bad that the only way that can apparently happen is if you advertise your policies like one advertises delivery pizza.

999 is the number we call for emergency services. 999=danger.

The only reason I would back this deal is because of the simplicity. But again he keeps changes the goal posts he says first that the 999 deal applies with no exceptions, Then he says that the sales tax will not apply for food or used goods can he really stick to something and not a general formula that some accountant wrote down on the back of an envelope? None of the exceptions are listed on his campaign website either.

I think 9-9-9 is ultra-regressive and an terrible idea. But it's catchy.

999 is certainly catchy.
I imagine that a lot of the people who like it think that it will cut their taxes by soaking the poors.  I suspect that people think the sales tax is in place of current sales taxes, being that Cain talks about how his system "throws out" the current system and replaces it. This is why Romney pushed on the whole additive nature of the sales tax.

The question is: will facts about the true nature of the plan actually sink in to the tea partiers who have been trained to distrust all information from the so called 'mainstream'. As Colbert says "facts have a liberal bias"
