Australia bans pornography where the actresses are judged to not have been endowed with large enough breasts. (*True Fact*)

this just means they can join all the other countries with restrictions on free speech.

I don't know that pornography qualifies as 'speech', though outright banning it is indeed somewhat silly.

There might not be a European Union for them to join two years from now.

Also, that's a stupid point.

The law in Russia is kind of amusing, it basically states "It is illegal to sell or distribute illegal pornography", a pointless law if there ever was one (basically saying "it's illegal to engage in illegal activities") without defining what "illegal pornography" is. It's Russia so it's not like they'd enforce the law anyway even if it was more clear.

Thailand? I'm going to simply assume the law isn't enforced at all there either.

I got curious here and looked at the wikipedia article; Ukraine's pornography restrictions are exempt for "porn that is only for medical purposes." Is there actually any reason a doctor would prescribe a porno, or is this just a silly loophole?

True. It would probably be best for Iceland to wait it out for a while to decide whether to or not to join.

Well, it is 'enforced' in the same way all other law is enforced in Thailand - as in, something being illegal means you have to pay bribes or protection to the police.  It is a wonderful country, and I love corruption.

Nothing.  I just think he's a high roller that get's the real thing.

He gets his fill.  Porn is superfluous.  I guess that's the way the game is played on that level.

I'm not.  I have a passport and I've dated several Scandinavian women.  Again in those situations porn is superfluous.

Now if I was marooned in the United States surrounded by obese American women I suppose I would beat off to porn on a daily basis just to keep my sanity.

They shouldn't join the EU because their economy will be sacrificed on the altar of German inflation as soon as possible.

Pornography isn't "speech". People seem to have taken a desire to allow free expression of opinion too far.

The fock?

Well, goes to show that progressivism != civil liberties.

Oh well, I still think Iceland, and the Nordic countries in general, are awesome.

It may not be speech or expression or opinion, but it's still not something the government should be restricting.

The adolescent males who populate this forum seem to have a problem with restrictions on pornography.  Shocking stuff.

Unrestricted access to pornography is the one and only issue that should determine the status of a nation on the international stage.

"Websites hosting pornographic material within Germany must comply with very strict rules about verifying that viewers are over 18."

This is why  porn sites aimed at German viewers, with text in German, are (apart from being stupid and superfluous anyhow as we speak English and don't use them for the text) invariably hosted in America. Clicking "yes, I'm 18, lemme in" doesn't cut it for the law here. And nobody bothers actually jumping through the law's hoops given the available alternative.

Because it isn't at least a little bit strange for a country to be the only one in the developed West -- especially the only one in the Nordic bloc -- to fine or jail people for making porn.  Clearly it's something only creepy teens should care about.  Roll Eyes

Isn't Iceland a little more religiously observant than the European average? That might play into its restrictions on pornography even if its progressive in many other aspects. Then again the country is going through a baby boom right now, so the government might not want to hinder it by legalizing porn.
