Ahmadiyya, they have a relatively liberal theology and are persecuted in Muslim countries.

That seems about right for me. If it's persecuted in Muslim countries than it must not be very Muslim at all. Maybe it's like the Muslim equivalent of non-trinitarian doctrines in Christianity?

Oh so they are like Muslim Mormons too like the Alawites? I suppose one would be the Mormons and the other would be more like Jehova's Witnesses.

They believe otherwise, just like the Mormans in relation to Christianity.  Of all self-described Muslims, I sympathize with the Ahmadiyya the most.

Its not my fault there aren't any prominant 'orthodox' Muslim sects that overwhelmingly support religious freedom, free speech, and equal protection under the law.  Muslim reformers have by and large not taken the crucial step of explicitly separating themselves from the traditionalists, so its difficult to name any right of hand.  If we're talking about Muslims organizations rather than sects, I have a sympathetic opinion towards the Liberal Islam Network in Indonesia.

That reminds me... what was that German gangsta rap line... something along the lines of "drinking, whoring, weed, hard drugs but I say no to pork - Sarajevo Style"

Oh so there's a Muslim equivalent of Catholics who'll do those things but won't eat meat on Fridays during Lent? Not all that surprising actually.

Sufis aren't a sect. The vast majority of Sufis today like (95%+) today are Sunni.
