HOA fees are sometimes paid for, sometimes not. Though I doubt this neighborhood will have one. Utilities are usually your own expense.

HOA fees are almost always paid for by the Landlord, even if a single family home. I pay those for my desert houses. Hey, my La Quinta house (aka "the palace") with that pool is available too!  Smiley

OK. Considering that fact and the exchange rate...I live for 7 months with all expenses included for one month's rent in Torie's place without. Cheesy

Obviously we're talking about different worlds as far as the appartment is concerned....but still wow Smiley

How many square feet is your pad, Franzl? Is this in Europe or in that little "benighted" sliver of downstate Illinois?  If in Munich, I thought that town was pretty expensive.

No, sbane. The one in Silverlake on Moreno Drive. Do you see me living in Moreno Valley?  Tongue

Yeah I was pretty damn confused. Tongue

I see. Well my parents do pay the HOA for their rented out Pleasanton house. The only other person I know who rents out properties is my uncle but he only has houses in sh**tty neighborhoods all over America. He makes sure none of them have HOA's.

Oh, and how much is the La quinta house listed for? Sq footage?

Living in Munich would be interesting (assuming that is where you live). My sister was there just last week for work (not Oktoberfest lol) and she liked it. Though she hated how narrow the streets were and sometimes she was confused whether the streets were for walking or driving lol. And drove at 100mph on the Autobahn...

Narrow streets? Welcome to Europe! Munich is an especially unfortunate place to drive, of course. My university is in Munich. I live in Holzkirchen, though. About a 30 min. train ride to the uni. Beautiful city and surrounding, with Bavaria's beautiful lakes and mountains about equally far away.

Ah the Autobahn Smiley 100 mph is really not an unusual speed. You're certainly not the fastest on the road with that speed under normal circumstances and assuming traffic plays along.

As said in the other post, I'm about 30 min. outside of Munich. You're right. The city is quite expensive, at least for German standards. Still a joke compared to California, of course.

My place? Cheesy It's tiny. I admit it. Only serves as a place to survive during uni, of course...without wasting too much money!

270 sq. feet Cheesy Actually, per sq. foot comparable to your listing. But it's obviously not proportional when you get larger.

Indeed. She said she had to stay in the slow lane, because apparently people will rear end you, or something.

And she said that when she left, she was complaining about how small the parking space was at the airport. When she came back, she couldn't believe how big it was. Smiley

It depends on whether it is a seasonal or year round rental. This one comes furnished, so just come as you are.  Smiley Do you like the pool that I designed?

Damn that pool looks nice. Though get rid of that unnatural grass. Golfers should move to Kentucky or something. The palm trees (assuming it's the California fan palm) can stay though.

And damn that costs a lot. Though if some snow birds just rent it for half the year it makes sense. Are there any jobs in the area that can sustain that sort of rent?

Missouri is cheap. A 1bd apartment in the Nashville area will run you about $500-600.

Same in Missouri.  Remember we are slumlords, not ordinary landlords.  We even have henchmen.

The grass is natural sbane. I don't do astroturf! Please!  Sad Oh, you mean not native. Whatever, I like it. The palms on the golf course are date palms. It used to be a date palm grove, and many were kept when the golf course was designed.

No, very few jobs are around to sustain that kind of rent, although it was rented to a local lawyer for two years. You bring your money with you to the desert.

The rocks by the way are natural, each weighing thousands of pounds (the larger ones at least). They had to be lifting in and down and inserted by a crane two stories high, sitting on the empty lots on either side of the home at the time. It was fortunate they were empty, or an even larger crane would be needed to lift them over the house!  But I loved the look and just "knew" that it "had" to be that way. I could just "see" it with my mind's eye.

The "henchmen" do what? Take the exterior doors off the units if the rent is not paid?

Haha, yes, that sort of thing.  But it rarely comes to that - first they just scare people.  They are kind of frightening and unpleasant.

Do you plan to continue to employ them after your parents assume room temperature?  Just curious. I kind of wish I were a tenant in one of your parents' hovels. I'd bankrupt them. Tongue  But then, I doubt that they would rent to a lawyer. Smiley

Really?  One may successfully sue the landlord for verbally requesting his rental payment and at the same time communicating a warning of legal or police actions should payment not be received?  In Missouri the landlords are allowed to communicate with their tenants.

In point of fact I'm not really sure the henchmen actually do anything other than act as our representatives and look intimidating.  It seems like on the rare occasion that someone doesn't leave voluntarily the police are called out to sort of supervise the eviction (serve the eviction?).  I think in that case those big boys carry out the people's belongings - obviously the cops aren't going to do that.

You can find some for $350-$400 here.  Of course that's because cost of living is lower in this area, jobs are scarce, and the cities not that great (Buffalo is nice, but NF is sh**t except the tourist section which includes the Falls, casino/Hard Rock Cafe, convention center, Gorge, ect.)   Wink

Well, the point is the simple folk often believed they were as I implied, and this used to be somewhat accentuated by an absurd rumor about my father - that somehow in his earlier years he had been involved with you-know-who (I won't say only 'the Italians', because in St. Louis they were also Irish and Jewish as well, or so it is said).  Construction/unions... I can see how people might think such a thing but it both wasn't the case and anyway irrelevant by the 1990s.
