So, Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf won the Nobel Peace Prize this year ... four days before a contested Presidential election in which she's one of the candidates. A bit on the colonial side, perhaps?

Hope it backfires like Obama's Nobel. Maybe they learn something. Tongue

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

...you hope that a genuinely successful African politician goes belly-up just to teach a lesson to a bunch of Norwegians? Am I reading that right?

Think about the outrage if Obama would have gotten his one in October 2012. They couldn't have waited a year?

(And yes, I think Johnson-Sirleaf was quite worthy of a Nobel Peace Price)

At least she has the good sense not to speak about it too much:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/10/world/africa/on-the-campaign-trail-liberias-sirleaf-plays-down-nobel-win.html?_r=2&scp=1&sq=liberia%20sirleaf%20election&st=cse

As for the Nobel prize for peace - the fact that unlike the other five it is awarded immediately and not after decades speaks for itself.

As I recall, Lewis isn't a fan of hers.

Yes... Heavens forbid awarding Nobel to the politicians!
