I heard one use the term 'people of color' the other evening.  I have to admit I did have an internal smirk when I heard that.

I dont see whats wrong with it. I mean, you cant really call black people black. I mean.. they arent really black. Just like I'm not white.

I think that might make me colored

Funny. I love how "Americans" think that they can change racism with words.

Here we still use the word negro (literally black). Our national sport hero is called El Negro Jefe (the black leader): Obdulio Varela.

antiquated

Only person I ever heard use the term was my grandmother, and she passed away thirty years ago.

Actually I created the thread because I was more shocked at the lack fo the letter U Tongue The term is not something I'd use but I wouldn't call someone out for using one.

My grandmother, who died in 2010, was probably the last person to use it frequently without any irony or negative connotation. Any so it reminds me of her. It's funny how language changes throughout the years.

An equivalent term exists in German. I never use it as I think it sounds kind of artificial and even less accurate than terms like "white", "black" etc.

There's no more ridiculous term than "person of color."

I agree, but I try my best not to refer to anybody by their skin color.  When someone is black or hispanic, I don't say "that black guy" or "that mexican guy", I try to say do you see that man in the red shirt, or whatever color clothes they are wearing.
