Cain is on a roll and has the Big Mo, but at a time when Cain needs news coverage, a Christie announcement could steal Cain's thunder....so, I have mixed emotions:  I perfer Christie to Romney, and Cain to Christie....but Cain is a huge gamble.

So, at this point, I'd welcome Christie and just allow the best candidate to show himself through the process.

Cain isn't going to win the nomination. If it came down to a battle between Cain and Romney, I think too many people might really like Cain but would think winning the nomination (and especially the General) would be too unrealistic. They'd end up going with Romney.

admittedly, I haven't watched the debates, so I don't really know how Cain is performing under the lights....but, if Cain (who at least has a plan) out debates Romney (who is halfway slick but never really says anything), I think Cain would trounce Romney.

Romney's only path to the nomination is by default: 1) every conservative GOP candidate disqualifies him/herself (which all have, with the current exception of Cain), 2) no one else enters the race...

This is spot on! Except I would say that Newt hasn't disqualified himself yet!

As the probability of that happening (and I am including  all potential entrants) is quite close to one, I guess, Romney is a safe bet.

I feel like this thread needs a joke about Chris Christie clearly liking Godfather's Pizza.

Newt hasn't disqualified himself through anything that he's done in his actual campaign, but there are still things about Newt that make him (or should make him IMO) a hard sell.

If you want a threat on Cain, just wait until the man proves that has no idea of what to do as president.

A few weeks ago people were declaring Perry to have a lock on the nomination. Get a grip, people. With a Republican primary electorate this promiscuous, they'll have moved on from their brief affair with Herman Cain onto a new conquest within a week or two.

we're not trying to be promiscuous, it's just that the past ones were no good.

In fairness, Cain hasn't been attacked a whole lot so far in this race, as people have had little reason to do so. I'm sure he has his share of dirt that has yet to surface. We'll see how things settle after people begin targeting him.

Cain is a bluff just to make Romney's road to presidency easier.

Anyone who can say with a straight face that Herman Cain is a serious contender for the nomination and the Presidential race deserves the best actor of the decade award.
