let's say UE hits 10% by Christmans 2011 and steadily climbs to 12% come Nov 2012...could Cain win DC?

I say....maybe...

No, I'd expect it to be pretty much black (Cain) v. half-white (DC).

No. If Obama was a Republican and McCain a Democrat, DC would have still voted for McCain. Its citizens support the Democratic Party's policies and don't care about the race of candidates.

Blacks aren't going to vote for a Republican just because he's black, jmfcst.

Especially if you're mayor of DC.

DC is heavily African American, but in the GOP Primary, its heavily White neocons.

The fact that Obama is half-white is irrelevant considering he self-identifies as black and the African American community recognize him as such.

DC, under the current party structure, will always vote Democratic.

Significantly less so than it used to be, though.

The only scenario that a Republican wins D.C in the near or medium term (not involving the end of the world as we know it) would be if the two parties flip positions.

Nah. Blacks don't line up with the Democratic party on many issues anyway. They will be Democrats no matter what.

Maybe if Cain supports reparations!  or legalizing weed.

If you didn't know Obama had a white mother, you wouldn't think he was mixed.  But I think a lot of lighter skinned african americans have white ancestors in the past, otherwise they'd be 100% black by darkness as Eddie Murphy's brother says via Rick james.

I wouldn't think someone like the rapper Drake was Black because he has really pale skin, since he's half white.  Rhianna has green eyes and her father is half-irish.

I think most people in Brazil are mixed Black and White.

No.

Forget 12%, it wouldn't matter if unemployment hit 30% and Obama went on national television to say he eats babies and enjoys pushing veterans in wheelchairs off tall bridges, as long as Herman Cain has an 'R' next to his name he won't win DC.

Absolutely not, why would anyone even think that would happen?

The fact that anyone would even start a thread with Black vs. Half-White in the subject or even the actual posts says a lot about why Republicans get labeled over and over again.

To put things in perspective, one way I could see that DC could have gone Republican, is if in 1968 Nelson Rockefeller was the Republican nominee and George Wallace was the Democratic  nominee.

Well if unemployment is at 12% AND Obama chose not to run for a second term, it could be closer then ever before, but I still dont think he would win DC.

I would go so far as to say that Herman Cain would be favored to win DC in such a scenario. Cain's policy positions are very popular among the hiphop cultureds in this city.

How? He might break 20 in DC, but he definitely isn't going to win the city if Republicans nominate him.

Cain doesn't even need the double dip to win DC.

Hip-hop culture is very receptive to political campaigns based on fast food advertisement slogans. Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan is very popular in this city. You can't walk down the streets of Anacostia without hearing the residents rap its praises.

Cain needs to keep quoting Pokemon.  That'll clearly help him with the BRTD vote and put him over the edge.
