Jeez, look at that margin, Cain more then lapped Perry! And Romney's only 1% from 2nd! Good stuff.

Ouch, Bachmann behind Huntsman.

That said, what is the point of these straw polls? They're never accurate compared to the results of the statewide Republican electorate polls. Why do them?

I thought I read that the Fla. straw poll had been accurate since '80 or so. But hardly anyone was competing this year.

You're right and regular polls are better measures but when the candidates pay attention to them, they bet prestige on them.  This result is real ugly for Perry given the expectations.  I bet it's less the debate than the merciless press about it (but I say that not having seen the last debate).  And as you say, atrocious for Bachmann too.

The Iowa Straw Poll, at least, is a fundraising scheme. Since you have to buy tickets for it before you can vote, and campaigns often buy those tickets to distribute to their supporters, that amounts to alot of money for the fundraising arms running the Iowa Straw Polls. I assume it works the same for the others, for the most part.

Wow, that's a pretty strong showing for Cain.
4th place is probably the best Santorum can do.
As for Bachmann, well she's still doing a bit better than McCotter.

Well, it is Little Israel, so Paul's poor showing is not suprising. Cain is growing popular down here.

I totally called this, if not on this forum. Didn't think Cain would win by THIS much, though.

Also, Ron Paul basically all but stated outright that he wasn't competing in this straw poll (whereas Santorum dumped a lot into it), so coming a couple percentage points away from second is decent and having Cain win is nothing but helpful (in that it weakens the frontrunners, with Ron being in the best position to move ahead currently)

Very bad couple days for Perry but of course he can wash his hands of it with a couple good polls.

Perry isn't surviving this. In the short run he might last a little while in the polls, but his "electability/frontrunner" claims are gone and Cain is one of the best candidates to steal his votes. In a month at most, he'll be just another two-bit candidate.

Perry has proven himself to be another flavor of the month: Just like Trump and Bachmann.

So, after exhausting all other options Herman Cain is the GOP's new flavor of the week. This should be amusing.

The Romney campaign has issued a statement

"All Your flavors of the week are belong to us"

At least Herman is entertaining. I'll enjoy his flavor of the month over Perry.

Though I'm a Paulite, Congrats to the Cain supporters. Thanks for exposing both Perry and Mittens.

Paul doesn't have to claim to compete in a straw poll for his followers to show up on their own accord. Him competing or not doesn't make a difference.

Perry really made a strong push to win this.  This article is worth reading, to put this in context:
