Obama vs. Romney

Slight change in WV from 50% shade to 40% shade, but that has to do with the sample, which has more Democrats this year than it would usually have in a Presidential year.

The kooks really have gone rural.

If the teabaggers decide they want to drop out of society by not living near anybody else, maybe they should just skip voting.

I have now updated most states with polls here:

https://uselectionatlas.org/POLLS/PRESIDENT/2012/polls.php

Texas will be polled by PPP this weekend, so it should move from "toss-up" to "strong GOP".

I'd say that WV will be one of those few states where Obama slightly improves, maybe losing by 10 instead of 13.

When was the last time the Democrats did better in Kentucky than West Virginia? I think it might happen.

And of course you'd be wrong.

Back in 2008, Obama has a very wide appeal to various segments of the population, but he never had chances with Appalachian whites. It won't change.

How are you so sure of that? It probably just depends on how he does nationally.

All the candidates have net unfavorables, as opposed to McCain at this point.

Mostly because of the historic trends regarding WV and his abysmal approval rating there. I assume Obama gets 13% less of the vote than nationwide, if we assume he wins with 51% nationally, he ends up with about 38% in WV. 60% for the Republican and 2% for others.

President Obama, as an intellectual secretive about his religious beliefs, and never pandering to hill-country culture, is a poor match for West Virginia.

Southern reactionaries are poor matches for New England, the West Coast, and the Great Lakes region. Take your pick.

Wonder how many of them think Social Security is a ponzi scheme and that richers should pay less in taxes. You really have to wonder what people in a poor state like WV think they're getting by voting GOP.
