DC has no voting rights in Congress, just a delegate that can't vote.

No, DC is not really a state, it was only founded so that none of the states could actually hold the federal government as far as I know, I think DC should stay that way with the President and Vice-President as their representation.

The people of DC must pay federal taxes yet they continue to get screwed by Congress.

DC needs full statehood!

Washington, MD sounds fine to me.

Otherwise, just eliminate their federal income tax burden Smiley

I agree, DC sould be given statehood.

The only reason you guys agree is because it would give the Democrats two more Senate seats...LOL

I've lived there...you don't want this city to provide ANYTHING to the Federal Government in terms of representation.

No give it to Virginia, that would turn Virginia into a Democratic state.

It should NOT be given full statehood, but it shuold have a voting member in the House.  This would be a nice compromise.

that's not a choice though.  . .

Why is that not a choice? It is the deserving compromise. I had to write up 3 constitutional amendments for civics, and I wrote up an amendment to include that, I think it is fair and that is what DC deserves.

Don't worry...  in 10 years Virginia will be a democratic state anyways considering all the northern liberals and blacks from DC that move into that state.

DC gets a  raw deal.  It is treated like Puerto Rico except having to pay taxes and gets 3 electoral votes for paying those taxes.  At the very least DC deserves a congressman.

Thing is no one outside of DC gives a damn.

Surprise, surprise...

http://thomas.loc.gov/home/c108query.html

And search for...H.R.3709

District of Columbia Voting Rights Restoration Act of 2004 (Introduced in House)

January 20, 2004
Mr. ROHRABACHER introduced the following bill...

And this bill agrees with me: make D.C. part of Maryland and end the debate. Naturally, that's just too sensible and nonpartisan to be done... Tongue

And I expect I'll get to enjoy this bit of anti-democratic good government for the rest of my life.

First off, D.C. was meant as a governmental city where workers and politicans resided ONLY.

Maryland would not want D.C. for the simple fact of D.C. being a bankrupt dump.

You don't need to give DC 2 senators, but seriousley, it has more than 500,000 folks in it, give it a vote in congress so it's represented.

Of this Nation,

I would agree to that as a reasonable compromise. The problem is that once you did this, they would begin screaming for Senators as well.

They should get neither, they were never supposed to be a territory or state, just a district. Treat them like Guam or Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands.
