For example, I know a satanist/white supremacist who says things like "the only good Jew is a Jewish slave" and "ya'll are too nly for my liking" and wants David Duke to run for president in 2012.

I know one guy who doesn't believe there is such a thing as individual rights. I have one friend who voted for the Swedish Left party for tactical reasons. Not that extreme I suppose.

At the other end I have one friend who thought it was a problem that they took in working class students at our university because it degraded the quality. I once asked him how it would work in a libertarian society - what did he think of the fact that someone might be really gifted but born into such a poor family that he just starves to death in the gutter before having a chance. His answer was "tough"

I also have a friend who replied to someone who said that "mowing down kids with bulldozers, at least, was not acceptable" with "if you stand in front of a bulldozer, what do you expect?"

I have a friend who thinks Western civilization is coming to an end, partly due to immigration. Probably the only real extreme I personally encountered is at the libertarian end.

Anybody going to a liberal arts college probably knows a Maoist (their partisan activism tends to make up for their small numbers in that respect).  The same applies (to a greater extent) for Marxist-Feminists, though they often seem to divorce their sociological convictions from an equivalent political ideology.  I knew a small amount of people like you described in Savannah, but those were apolitical teenage outcasts.

That sounds a lot like the guy I know. He's always complaining about how racially "impure" America is due to immigrants from Central and South America.

Extreme? I know evangelicals, but nobody like Michele Bachmann.

I do know an anarcho-communist, if that counts.

No, not really. My friends are mostly either uncontroversial liberals or uncontroversial libertarians.

My best friend takes the conservatism a bit too far sometimes, to the point where one who doesn't know him well would think he's a borderline racist or a teabag-type far-right guy.

As already mentioned, it depends on your definition of "extreme". And on your definition of "knowing somebody".

Among my true friends, there is only one pretty radical environmentalist.
No fascists of course, no commies or hardcore "libertarians" either.

My cousin thinks any immigrant to come to Canada should have to be able to speak English and French. OK, that's not that bad, but still... judging by his political compass score, I don't want to know what his other opinions are. He once told me "I'll vote NDP Earl, if you guys let me be the only person to have a gun". Scary.

I have a friend (who definitely knows his stuff) who wants most criminals executed on the spot when they're caught.

A schoolmate once told me he'd vote for Le Pen over Aubry if these were the choices in a runoff. To be fair, this position is probably shared by a good third of French rightists.

Yikes!  Time to get new friends.

No I don't know anybody like that in real life.  I'm sure they exists somewhere.  Luckily even racist people in the United States don't openly express those types of views.  Thank God for political correctness.  It really keeps you from having to hear really disgusting things during the course of the day.

Having said all that I have seen some pretty bad stuff on the internet.  I lurked for a couple of weeks on a political forum (that will remain nameless) and you wouldn't believe the types of things I routinely read on there.  There seemed to be a core of racist right wingers that would flood the place with racist and race baiting posts all day long.  It was strange.  I guess the anonymity of the internet lets people say things they can't in the real world.  There are a lot more racist sleeper cells amongst us than you would think.

On the other hand when you travel overseas people think parts of the US are like a scene from Mississippi Burning.  I have to assure them its not.  I guess it makes them feel better about their own racist tendencies.  I let them know we are a civilized country and the hardcore racists only represent a small minority.

I have some friends that are extremely liberal.  One of my heirs is a registered socialist.

What does that mean in the US? Being a member of the strange DSA that never runs candidates?

Pretty much.  It is one of those fringe left-wing parties.

To people like J.J. blue dog Democrats are Marxist Leninists.  I would caution you about accepting anything he says about socialism or socialist at face value.

Practically every Libertarian I see on the internet. Those guys are pretty whack.

I think I have some pretty radical views on certain things (especially if radical means "outside the norm") though however they would be pretty difficult to place on the political spectrum.
