This isn't exactly important "News", as it has virtually no chance of happening.  I just found it rather amusing and thought I would share...

That would just breed two more Dem Senators, unless LA  County is deemed part of Northern California. Smiley

Wish Los Angeles would secede itself, so the rest of us would not have to deal with the embarrassment of having that around. Tongue

I think California, like Texas could be split in three.

I think we should cap the number of states we have at 50. Unless the Dakotas unite, then we could bring in another state. But I pray to God it is not Puerto Rico....ugh.

wtf. This would just results in two hella ugly states. Oh wait, Riverside county supervisor? Probably just some Republican hack who wants to stuff all the Republican-leaning parts and small Democratic-leaning parts of the state into a new one. Roll Eyes

Can we make upstate New York a state of it's own please? We'd no longer be tied to long island and New York City's leftist voters.

Given California's size and population it would make sense to have California be two or more States.  I just don't see that happening anytime soon, tho it should have been done from the start.  California's admission to the Union was way too rushed.

I agree, it should be returned to Mexico ASAP.

No. We won California fair and square as spoils of war.

If upstate NY wasn't connected to the rest I tend to believe that it would resemble PA in it's voting habits.

I would've opposed that war if I had been in congress back then.

Yes.  We votes Obama in upstate New York, but in 2004 the majority was just barely in favor of Bush.  In the very least, it might make it more competitive than the otherwise "democrat so don't bother voting if you're Republican" state.  Of course, I'm not sure how we would make up revenue we'd lose, or how our state parks would continue [of which the one's worth mentioning are upstate].  It may give political balance, but it would cost even more jobs (in Albany in particular), revenue, ect.  I'm not actually convinced it would be a good thing, it's more something us upstaters like to imagine would be fantastic.

While we are at it, why don't we merge Delaware into Maryland (along with DC of course), and combine Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts into one state. We could do the same for Vermont, NH and Maine just to make it look a bit less partisan.  Smiley

Just taking the 10 southern counties would work as a state.
