The poster gets indefinitely "muted" and the case is referred to Dave to take action. The only poster so far to hit 100 is Derek, who was then banned.

No, 100 mutes you pending banning.  Basically, if you hit 100, you can't post anymore, but you aren't technically banned.  It's more for if we have a spamtroll like GusChuggins we can easily get him up to 100 and then wait for Nym to ban him manually without him continuing to post in the meantime.

EDIT:  BRTD is mostly right, but the final authority is really Nym, not so much Dave (who has been gone a long time now)

the Mods are like Hillary Clinton during the 2008 primary campaign- they keep moving the goal posts.  After trying hard for more than a week, I am finding it impossible to legitimately get banned from this forum using the infraction system.  My efforts have proved counterproductive (except to prove the system is irrelevant) - my infraction points are now declining, and after more than a solid week of continuous effort, and having stooped so low as to use a Judge Reinhold movie line, I’ve only been able to budge it four points from 91 to 95.  I've got 10 points that are going to expire within a couple of days and another 24 that are going to expire in a couple of weeks.  

I can’t keep up.  I’ve tried repeatedly to come up with movie endings that would have me going out in a blaze of glory, but they never materialized in reality and all that is left is the fear of that dreadful approaching voice: “But it is all right, everything is all right, the struggle is finished. They have won the victory over you, jmfcst - you now love Big Brother!”
