Ron Paul: still the undisputed champion of winning meaningless straw polls.

The real story here is Buddy Roemer getting 9 votes, which means that at least 9 Republican activists know who he is. Speaking of which, I've started seeing his ads on tvtropes.

I've been seeing his ads for a while. Now I'm seeing millions of Bachmann ads, while Obama is keen on getting ads here.

Well, the event was in Louisiana.  Wink

I watch Saturday (on C-SPAN, not in person even though I live 30 minutes away and work 5 minutes away). Roemer didn't impress me when he was governor, but I thought he gave a good speech. He's only accepting a max of $100 donation / person. Even if he hadn't been out of the spotlight for 20 years, that would probably doom his campaign.

This is great news. He's not going to win but hopefully will make major inroads and influence the conservative movement in a pro-liberty direction.

Yes, because Santorum actually showed up.  Both Pawlenty and Romney skipped this event.

Roemer spoke at this thing, it was held in his home state, and he still only managed 9 votes.  That's pathetic.

There were two rumors about how Huntsman got votes. One was supporters were bussed. Another is that he paid people off.

This poll does tell us that Pawlenty is still not getting traction. Bachmann is.

Romney may be playing the roll of the hare. If so, who is the tortoise?

Again, neither Pawlenty nor Romney even showed up to this thing, whereas most of the other candidates did.

I don't think this means much of anything.  I don't think there are any straw polls worth paying any attention to until Ames.

While true that it is an early poll, he should have gotten more votes. He barely got anything. I didn't bag on Romney's number for that very reason. 1% is way too small, though. That's Gary Johnson/ Buddy Roemer territory.

It's a bit too early and too hackish to put Romney in the same category, as Roemer.

Again though, so what?  Neither Pawlenty nor Romney participated anyway.  So what does this tell us that opinion polls don't already tell us?  Nothing.

True. Duncan Hunter won 2007 Texas poll. Why wasn't he declared a frontrunner back then? McCain, an eventual nominee, did not participated at all and won just 8 votes.

What does that tell us? Nothing.

And Romney isn't some unknown one-term Governor many years ago. You can deny a lot to him, but not lack of recognition.

I was not talking about Romney. I was talking about Pawlenty.

This is just a news driver, nothing more.  Kudos to Huntsman for getting his name out there, and the association to Paul in the news toplines won't hurt his electoral path, either.

Meaningless otherwise.
