This is one time where waiving that 72 hours would be very effective.

Senate composition issue was always something obvious for us but, sadly, looks like a constitutional loophole may cause us a lot of problems.

I urge my fellow Senators to pass this simple, but needed, clarification ASAP.

I would like to amend it to read as following:

1. The Senate shall be divided into two classes: Class A, which shall comprise the Senators elected from the Regions, and Class B, which shall comprise Senators elected by a form of proportional representation. Each class shall be limited to 5 Senators. The Pacific Region shall elect two Senators. The Midwest and Northeast Regions shall each elect one Senator. The Mideast and Southeast shall share one Senator.

Yankee can use his powers as PPT to strike any amendments he deems frivolous. Bgwah would need to find two other Senators to defend his amendment, which he may have difficulty doing.

Do it, Yankee. I love seeing that power be used. Tongue

Well I'd obviously defend his amendment so he'd only need one other Senator.

Normally I would refrain from using such power in all but the most clearly ridiculous items but I would like to move this to a final vote at the end of that annoying 72 hours and an amendment vote could delay that by a few days. It might be a good educational endeavour into lesser used parts of the OSPR.

So I guess I see no harm in trying this just this once:

I am striking the amendment by the honerable gentleman from the Pacific. Senators have 24 hours to challenge this action publically and will require the concurrence of 3 duly choosen and sworn sitting Senators to overide this action.

I don't intend this as a joke. My proposal is no more outlandish than having a Governor-for-life, forcing a candidate to appear as "chode" on a ballot or two regions having a border dispute over New Mexico.

Joking of course, Yank was right using his powers. Wink

As amusing as I find the proposed legislation in the Pacific, I agree that this is probably necessary.

To be fair, though, this is true -

Indeed and in most cases I wouldn't have done this were time less crucial. I would have enjoyed the chance to vote against that amendment myself. Tongue It had been my desire however to pass this and two other items (Elections and Registration) out of this slot alone by the end of the month.

The amendment has been removed from consideration. A final vote may start as earlier as tomorrow afternoon.

I've been PPT before. I used it, like, twice. I also think I did a pretty good job back in the day. It's harder to scaremonger over a known quantity. Tongue

Besides, it's only used in extreme circumstances. All you needed was two other people to back it up.

I'm sure when Harry Truman was getting giddy over nuclear bomb testings, he would then comment "Well I only used it, like, twice!" Roll Eyes

Sorry, bgwah, but your amendment is pure political trolling.
