This is a scenario I could potentially see happening...

Romney wins the GOP nomination, mainly due to such a weak field. Many Tea Party voters are extremely wary of Romney's candidacy, and talks begin swirling of a possible "Tea Party" ticket. Romney reassures those voters by selected South Carolina Senator Jim Demint, a favorite of the Tea Party, who also helps Romney shore up evangelicals in the South.

On election day, unemployment numbers are at 8.8%. America still has a presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. Key Issues: Israel, Unemployment, National Debt, Health Care

I shudder to think of DeMint, that intolerant SOB, anywhere near the Oval Office.

DeMint would be toxic with Independents. He'd sure up Romney's right flake, but that would be it.

'Same basic 2008 map except MO and IN switch and NH goes to Romney.

Obama: 353
Romney: 185
