Is is possible that, with the relatively weak field of candidates, he could actually run again?

Nope, he's old and would be re-defeated.

I'm sure he has thought about it but the campaign would be a non-starter and he knows that.

I don't think so. Even if he could have won the nomination (and that is a big if) he would probably lose to Obama in the General Election. No-one wants to be the new Adlai Stevenson.

Who would he pick for his running mate this time, Michele Bachmann?

What?  Are you kidding?  Never.  Why did this idea get more responses in 5 minutes than my post suggesting the GOP frontrunners endorsing Paul Ryan's plan would hurt them got in 5 weeks i.e zero responses?  Nobody loves meeeeeee!!!!!!!    Waaawaaawaaa.  OK, all better now.  Anyway.  No, John McCain will never run for president again and very possibly won't run for senate again, though that's a maybe.

No.  His time has passed, unfortunately.  (I don't love everything about him, but I do appreciate his very apparent love of his country, something I haven't seen much since Reagan.)

He might as well. He'd run a decent race and keep it fairly close. Probably all many Republican leaders are secretly hoping for.

But why bother? Obama will be difficult to beat and I don't see him being able to bring that extra oomph(Never was good at sound effects) to the table.

Actually, I SERIOUSLY doubt he's even considered it in the slightest. He wants to die in the Senate.
