Nixon in quite the landslide. Funny that I actually came up with a similar scenario a while back!

Much like the President he most admired, Richard Nixon as well would ascend to the presidency with the support of only about 40% of the electorate, coming to office due to party rifts between the left, right, and center of the governing party. And, like Wilson, Nixon would attempt to use his small victory to make grand strides.

Former Vice President Richard M. Nixon (R-NY)/Governor Spiro T. Agnew (R-MD) 411 electoral votes, 41% of the popular vote
Governor George C. Wallace (AI-AL)/Col. Harland D. Sanders (AI-KY) 70 electoral votes, 16% of the popular vote
President Lyndon B. Johnson (D-TX)/Governor John King (D-NH) 57 electoral votes, 35% of the popular vote
Senator Eugene McCarthy (AW-MN)/Governor Philip H. Hoff (AW-VT) 0 electoral votes, 7% of the popular vote

I think Nixon is over estimated in previous scenarios; LBJ would have shown better than Humphrey as incumbent president. However, in this scenario he does not win Minnesota, because Gene McCarthy takes away too much votes and handles the victory to Nixon in this state.

In the end, none receives an absoute majority in the electoral college. The House then electes LBJ. However, I think LBJ would keep Humphrey on the ticket.

President Lyndon B. Johnson/Governor John King 265 EV. 40.5%
Former Vice President Richard Nixon/Governor Spiro Agnew 228 EV. 40.1%
Governor George Wallace/Col. Harland D. Sanders 45 EV. 12.3%
Senator Eugene McCarthy/Governor Philip H. Hoff 0 EV. 7.0%

Johnson does better in the South against Wallace than a Humphrey candidacy, but elsewhere he loses support in crucial states to McCarthy, who attracts some progressive and anti-war Republican support as well.

Nixon/Agnew  415   41.3%
Johnson/King   84    37.9%
Wallace/Sanders  39   11.9%
McCarthy/Hoff       8.7%
