Tavish Scott has resigned as Lib Dem leader.  Willie Rennie is seen as the likely replacement.

I thought it had already been noted that comparing contemporary political trends in two countries is often an awful idea.

Apparently Charlie Whelan, Darling and Brown are being pushed by Labour insiders to "save the union" and Brown wouldn't need to become an MSP.

Just a note to say that if anyone sets up an Inverclyde by-election thread this week, they will be made to regret it. Partly for the usual reasons of decency and so on. But also for reasons that long-time readers should be able to work out from joining the dots. Thanks/diolch.

I am currently going through an exercise to take a good guess at ward by ward results based on the polling district data from 2007 and combining constituency swings. It's not perfect, but the examples I've done so far appear 'right.' It is of course just for my own twisted amusement.

Here is my attempt at Glasgow. Constituency swings were applied to 2007 results and split wards saw different swings applied to each component part and then added together.

Is it too soon for an Inverclyde thread yet? Labour's shortlisting tomorrow, just btw.

No, you can start one if you want; a couple of weeks is a decent enough interval.
