After this topic: http://www.uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=98141.0 was such a success, I'd hope we can see more of the same for 2011. I've come to learn that knowing the programs used in making these maps are good skills to have, and hence, I hope to be a bigger help this time around.

May I ask that, once the thread is underway, the opening post (or, failing that, this post of mine) be turned into a geographical index of areas covered?

Yeah, I'll do that.

I was going to - hence the reason I made the thread - but if you want to help I wont stop you Tongue

http://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=vot&dir=faq&document=faqelec&lang=e#a6
- It seems the poll by polls results will be out within 90 days

The polling shapefiles will be different from 2008.

Most of the ridings will remain the same. (With a couple of added polling stations).
However ridings with a large population change (with the 905) could see a complete  renumbering of the polling stations. (No more 27, 27-3, 27B, 27-3B, these might become 39, 40, 41 and 42) Making it very hard to compare results from the last election.

Here is the link the previsious shapefiles. (2000,04,06,08)

It is for by-elections.
For a general election, it is "without delay".

Checking the news releases on elections.ca

http://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=med&document=releases2008&dir=pre&lang=e
http://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=med&document=releases2006&dir=pre&lang=e

the poll results were released under 2 months after the election. (Last 2 elections)

Jan 23/06 --- Mar 13/06 (51 days)
Oct 14/08 --- Dec 4/08  (49 days)

So expect them sometime around June 20

However the poll results from the 2000 and 2004 elections were released months later.

Nov 27/00 -- May 2/01
June 24/04 --- Nov 17/04

Which provinces? If there are only said maps for a few provinces (IE Quebec, Ontario, maybe BC) then we can create threads for each, but if this data can be applied to 4 or more provinces, then we could create a thread just for Provincial results.

Quebec, Ontario and BC maps are possible, I think, if someone has time to do some.
I'm obviously more interested by Quebec maps. I finished a Mercier map than someone requested last August (and than I began last August) and I'm doing a map of the by-election in Kamouraska-Témiscouata, now.

But, sure, if someone has ideas of interesting provincial ridings in those provinces, I have time this summer for that.

I would a thread for all provinces would better, but it is only my opinion.
I think than our respectable and perfect Boardbashi will decide, as the moderator of the board, no?

EDIT: NB is possible, too.

If we're doing provincial stuff, I have a lot of Quebec 2008 maps to share. Here's Laval, for example.

It should be noted that tied divisions are incorrectly given the color of the riding winner, sorry.

And, of course, Montreal.

Same caveats apply.

Remember that Shilly's maps are the 2008 provincial elections, not federal. (Red is PLQ, cyan is PQ, orange is QS.) The BQ did a lot better in Montreal (and province-wide) in 2008 than the PQ did.

Oh, well.

The mess begins.
We have an Ontario thread and Quebec maps in the federal thread.

Where do I post my Quebec maps, please?

Since the offending images have not been moved, I decided it'd be easiest to retitle the thread.

Key used is the Atlas Key. PQ is blue, PLQ is red, ADQ is green.

Kamouraska-Témiscouata 2008

Kamouraska-Témiscouata 2010 by-election

Sorry, I was too lazy to color fully the tied precinct with color lines.

Mercier 2008

I don't know much the areas (especially in Mercier), but if you ask questions, I can search and try to find.
